Kid Creativity Gets Real

For this weeks fun picture, I decided to show you some really fantastic artwork of what children's drawings would look like if drawn realistically.

Sizzle In The Drizzle

Rain isn't all that bad.

It is calming, even beautiful.

It's something worth celebrating!

And it hasn't ruined a day of mine yet...

Embrace the rain.

"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby."
Langston Hughes

More Than You Need

I'm currently watching Oprah, and Tom Shadyac is on.

This man is amazing.  The following is an excerpt from his new documentary I Am, which is his story about going from "Riches to Rags" and the world's ever-growing addiction to materialism.

The following quote literally blew me away.

 Nature is very clear on this.  There is one fundamental law that all of nature obeys, that mankind breaks every day. And the law is this;

Nothing in nature takes more than it needs.  A redwood tree doesn’t take all of the soil’s nutrients, just what it needs to grow.  A lion doesn’t kill every gazelle, just one.

We have a term for something in the body when it takes more than its share - we call it cancer.  So that was a shock to me - that I was a part of the cancer, because I wanted to be part of the healing.

Maybe you don't need tons of stuff.  Maybe you just need what you need, and then you can focus on the things that really matter.

Hug your kids, kiss your boyfriend, talk to your soul mate.

Morning Tea

There's something so simplistically wonderful about a mug of tea on a morning where you have nothing to do.

I love this picture because...
* the mug (my favourite, chips and all) always reminds me of a great weekend with my husband in Montreal
* the cute little teapot was a Christmas present from Chris, and it makes the most delicious loose leaf tea
* nothing is better than a big ol' mug of tea, forget this tea "cup" business

Take joy in the simple things.

My new favourite quote,
"Catch it in the whisper." - Oprah

Happy Beer

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Go out, enjoy a happy faced beer.

Cheers! xo

I've Grown Up!

I think I grew up today. Just now.

Tonight, I had 2 options for what to watch on TV.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians...

or Iron Chef America.

I picked Iron Chef.

One small step for me, one giant leap for my future.

The Black Keys of Awesome

Chris is a huge music man. (huge is probably the biggest understatement of the year). One of the good things of having a husband obsessed with music is the introduction to bands like this.

The Black Keys have started to blow my mind. Enjoy.

Howlin' For You
(not the official video, because that one has people talking over it and ruins the song)

Tighten Up
(this is the official video, it's fun to watch and even more fun to listen to)

I know just how I feel..."

Living a Good Week

I read this quote today in the book I'm reading (South of Broad by Pat Conroy):

"I think I'm in the middle of living a good week."

I love the whole idea of living a week.  Sometimes it's a good one, sometimes it isn't.  I think the important thing to realize is that you have to live, whatever your week brings you.  And sometimes living one week at a time is the best way to live in general.

So, are you living a good week? I hope so.

Pin Me Up

I am kind of obsessed with Pin Up culture.  Sometimes I wish I had been born during the Pin Up Era.  If I had the bod, I'd be a Pin Up Girl every year for Halloween.  I love the hair, the lips, the cute/sexiness of it all.

Sometimes I think I must be a boy, because I'd love to have a Pin Up tattoo, and I have a Pin Up Girl in my bathroom.

Pin Up Girls have the right idea.  They show a little skin, do a sexy little thing with their lips, arch the eyebrow...

"Pin up girls suggest forbidden fruit as well as apple pie..."

Fat Cat, Big City

My sister is not a cat person. That is, until this "little" bundle of joy popped into her life.

He is too cute and too fat not to share him with the world.

I'm pleased to introduce you to Niki.

Don't be offended if he doesn't walk over to greet you... his 22 pound frame is a little tired.

He'll definitely bring a smile to your face!

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

I have a new respect for mirror decor.

I used to think mirrors were all cheap trashy motels and tiny grungy "make the space look bigger with ceiling to floor closet door" tacky apartment mirrors.  Not anymore!
When I was in Northern Ireland, we had breakfast at this fantastic cafe.  Mirrors adorned the wall with a great backdrop of burnt orange and red stripe. I fell hard for the look. See below.

Mirrors on a wall, especially when done in a bundle, give the room a great hipster chic vibe. And, you get even more opportunities to stare at your bad self.

I say, go with mirrors.

Oh, and this just makes me happy.

"Beauty is truth's smile when she beholds her own face in a perfect mirror." -  Rabindranath Tagore

Fanta-sy

I don't think I've ever actually had a drink of "Fanta" but their ads are making me want to.  I wish I lived in Fanta land...

It couldn't make me happier!

Have a great weekend everyone!
